Hubei Water Resources and Hydropower Vocational and Technical College is a public ordinary higher education institution approved by the Hubei Provincial People's Government in 2002 and registered with the Ministry of Education. It is the only higher vocational and technical college in the water conservancy industry in Hubei. Its predecessor was the former Hubei Provincial School of Water Resources and Hydropower. Wuhan Navigation Vocational and Technical College is affiliated with the central mega enterprise group - China Sinotrans Changhang Group Co., Ltd. (referred to as China Sinotrans Changhang). Huazhong Normal University is a key comprehensive normal university directly under the Ministry of Education of China and a key university under the national "211 Project". Changjiang Engineering Vocational and Technical College is a public ordinary higher education institution approved by the People's Government of Hubei Province and registered by the Ministry of Education. The predecessor of the college was Yangtze River Engineering University, founded in 1959, with a history of 50 years. Before 2004, it was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Water Resources. In June 2004, in accordance with the spirit of the State Council (Guo Ban Fa [2000] No. 11) document, the college was transferred from the Ministry of Water Resources to Hubei Province for management and is one of the 25 universities directly under the Hubei Provincial People's Government.

The college is located in Wuhan China Optics Valley Software Park, adjacent to universities such as Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, and Zhongnan University for Nationalities. Wuhan Engineering Vocational and Technical College was established on April 18, 2001, with the approval of the People's Government of Hubei Province, under the background of the country's vigorous development of higher vocational education and the deepening of system reform at Wuhan Iron and Steel Group. It was reorganized by Wuhan Iron and Steel Workers' University and Wuhan Metallurgical Automation Advanced Technical School. In 2007, Hubei Huangshi Electromechanical Vocational and Technical College and Wuhan Iron and Steel First Technical School were merged as a whole, and the "three schools were reorganized" to establish the new Wuhan Engineering Vocational and Technical College.
