Site Description: Historical evolution. Our school was founded in 1949 and was then known as the People's Medical College of the East China Military Region. In 1950, it was renamed Shanghai Military Medical University. In July 1951, it was officially named the Second Military Medical University. Overall strength. The school is a key construction institution for the national "211 Project" and the military "2110 Project". It is one of the three graduate schools established by the military, one of the 11 institutions offering eight year medical education in the country, one of the 36 "National Life Science and Technology Talent Training Bases", and the only training base for foreign military medical students in our army.
