The school has a graduate school. The predecessor of China University of Mining and Technology was Jiaozuo Railway and Mining School, founded in 1909, and later renamed Jiaozuo Institute of Technology. In 1950, based on Jiaozuo Institute of Technology, the first higher education institution in mining industry in New China, China Institute of Mining and Technology, was established in Tianjin.
