The College of Engineering and Technology of Chengdu University of Technology is jointly founded by the Southwest Institute of Physics of the nuclear industry of China and Chengdu University of Technology on the basis of comprehensive cooperation of "production, learning and research". In 2000, it was approved by the Education Department of Sichuan Province as a full-time ordinary higher education institution (second level college). In February 2004, it was confirmed by the Ministry of Education as an independent college (publicly owned nationwide), belonging to the national public institution legal entity. In 2004, it was awarded the honorary title of "China's first-class independent college of higher education".

Liberal arts college was founded in 1976, which was then called Daxian Normal University. In 1978, it was officially incorporated into the national full-time regular colleges and universities with the approval of the State Council. It was named Daxian Normal College, renamed Daxian Normal College in 1993, and officially upgraded to liberal arts college in 2006 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It is the only full-time undergraduate college in eastern Sichuan at present. The college is located in Dazhou City, an important town in the eastern part of Sichuan Province. The Xiangyu, Dazhou, and Dazhou Wanzhou railways intersect here. National highways 210 and 318, as well as the Dazhou and Dazhou expressways, run through the entire area. Xihua University is a provincial key comprehensive university approved by the Ministry of Education on April 16, 2003 and merged by the former Sichuan Institute of Technology and the former Chengdu Normal College. On September 25, 2008, with the approval of the Sichuan Provincial Government and the registration of the Ministry of Education, Sichuan Economic and Management Cadre College was merged into Xihua University. The predecessor of Sichuan Institute of Technology, Sichuan Agricultural Machinery College, was established in 1960. It is one of the comprehensive agricultural machinery colleges established by the country in seven major regions to achieve agricultural mechanization. In 1978, it was listed as a provincial key engineering university by the Sichuan Provincial Government and renamed Sichuan Institute of Technology in 1983.

Chengdu University of Science and Technology was founded in 1956, with its predecessor being Chengdu Geological College. Sichuan Institute of Technology is located in Zigong City, Sichuan Province, which is renowned as the hometown of dinosaurs, the millennium salt capital, and the southern lantern city both domestically and internationally. The predecessor of the school was the Southwest Branch of the former East China University of Chemical Technology (now East China University of Science and Technology) established in 1965. In 1979, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Sichuan University of Chemical Technology was established on the basis of the original Southwest Branch of East China University of Chemical Technology. In 1983, with the approval of the former National Education Commission, it was renamed Sichuan University of Light Industry and Chemical Technology.
