Northeast Agricultural University
Northeast Agricultural University was founded in Harbin in 1948. It was originally called Northeast Agricultural University. It was the first ordinary agricultural college founded by the CPC in the Jiefang District. Liu Da, a well-known educator and the first mayor of Harbin, was the first president of the university. Since its establishment, the university has been under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Northeast Administrative Committee, the Ministry of Higher Education of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China, the Agricultural Commission of Heilongjiang Province, and the Department of Education of Heilongjiang Province. In 1981, it was designated as a key university under the provincial government of Heilongjiang Province. In 1994, it merged with the Agricultural Economic Management Cadre College of Heilongjiang Province to form Northeast Agricultural University. In 1996, it became one of the first batch of key universities under the national "211 Project".

Harbin Medical Sciences University
Harbin Medical University was founded in 1926. It was formed by the merger of the former Harbin Medical University (its predecessor was Harbin Medical Special School established by Chinese medical pioneer Dr. Wu Lien-teh) and the former Xingshan (now Hegang City) First and Second Branches of China Medical University (its predecessor was the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army Health School established by the CPC in Ruijin, Jiangxi Province in 1931). Changchun University of Science and Technology (formerly Changchun University of Optics and Precision Mechanics) is a provincial key university in Jilin Province, characterized by optoelectronic technology and advantageous in the combination of optics, mechanics, electronics, computing, and materials, with coordinated development of engineering, science, humanities, economics, management, and law. The school was founded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1958. Jilin Medical College, formerly known as the Fourth Military Medical University of the People's Liberation Army of China, was founded in 1952 and has trained over 30000 medical talents for the military and local governments. It has a glorious history and excellent tradition. In August 2004, with the approval of the State Council and the Central Military Commission, the school was transferred from the military to Jilin Province and renamed as Jilin Medical College. It became a provincial public higher medical undergraduate institution and is currently the only independent comprehensive higher medical institution in Jilin Province.
